Downsize your make-up bag for stress-free travel this summer
Wipe out
Whatever your reason for skipping a full on evening skincare routine, whether you’re pressed for time or seriously lacking suitcase space, using a disposable facial wipe to cleanse away the day could be the answer. All you need to do is swipe, so there’s no need to rinse! Look out for products that offer multiple cleansing and moisturising benefits and you can lose the night cream, too. Seeing red
Not sure what lip colour to take with you on holiday? “Red is a good all-rounder,” says make-up artist Natasha Devedlaka- Price (natashadevedlaka.com). It’s also very versatile, as she explains. “You can mix it with a lip balm for a slight lip stain or use it for a full on lip and it’s a great way to turn day make-up into a night-time look.” It also has the benefit of doubling up as a blush, so that’s one less product you need to take with you! Be confident
Try switching your usual foundation for a BB (blemish balm) cream. This clever, multitasking little product boasts the benefits of a face cream, serum, moisturiser, primer, foundation and sun block, all in one. It’s a great choice for summer as it provides light coverage so your skin can breathe, as well as UV ray protection and it can cover imperfections such as scars and blemishes – some brands can even fight the effects of ageing and shield your skin against daily pollution. Get in line
Mascara is no longer simply a saviour for your lashes – it can be used in other ways, too. “If you are looking to double up on products, you can dip a brush into your mascara tube to use it as liquid eyeliner,” Natasha explains. And that’s not all – “if the colour is right, you could also use it sparingly to define and shape your brows.” Inika Organic Vegan Mascara in Brown, £19 inikaorganic.com
Create a natural glow
Capture that sun-kissed look with bronzer – just be sure to choose a colour that matches your skin tone. You can do this by finding a shade that mimics how you look when you’re slightly tanned and deciding between matte or shimmer, powder or cream. “This product is always useful,” says Natasha. “Not only can you use it for contouring your face, you can also apply to your body and sweep it over your lid as eye shadow, too.” Lily Lolo Pressed Bronzer in Miami Beach, £16 lilylolo.co.uk
Wash and go
Two-in-one shampoo and conditioner products are not only convenient for travelling, but they could also be better for your hair. Normal shampoos and two-in-one products both work to clean your tresses, but using the former alone can leave your hair feeling dry, while the latter features added conditioning that leaves your locks smoother and more manageable. These products are particularly good if you have damaged or curly hair as they are less harsh. Dr Organic Dead Sea Mineral Shampoo & Conditioner 2 in 1, £6.99 hollandandbarrett.com
All for one
It may sound like fiction, but there is a product out there that can used as everything from a moisturiser and cleanser to an essential beauty product. “Balms are a must for your make-up bag,” recommends Natasha. “These can be used as a mascara primer for your eyelashes, for adding gloss to your lips or to highlight your eye lids, brows and cheekbones.” Check the ingredient list before purchasing – some offer extra benefits such as coenzyme q10 and squalane. Stick it out
A multi-stick is a great way to use less space in your make-up bag as it has so many uses, streamlining your lipstick, blusher, eye shadow and bronzer into one handy, minimalist stick. They’re perfect for travel and for those on-the-go, simplifying your make-up routine and saving you time and money. You also don’t need an applicator or brush to apply – just swipe on directly from the tube or use your fingers. Ilia Multi Stick in Tenderly, £30 naturisimo.com
Make a clean sweep
A refillable brush makes for the perfect travel companion if you’re short on space, as instead of packing both your applicator and make-up, you only need this one product. They’re really easy to use – simply open the top of the brush, fill it with your favourite powder and you’re good to go! Your make-up will come out of the bristles in manageable amounts and won’t spill all over your bag. Jane Iredale Re-Fill Me Refillable Loose Powder Brush, £28 janeiredale.com
Oil or nothing
An oil should be a vital part of your travel beauty arsenal. These products can perform a variety of duties – you can use them as a hydrating face and body moisturiser, as a leave-in conditioner and a way to de-frizz your hair and protect it from the harmful effects of chlorine and salt water or you can even mix them with your make-up to create a healthy glow.
