Ward off the signs of ageing by adopting these simple steps into your daily routine
Your daily anti-ageing routine can easily take over your life, so much so that you can easily skip the most simple steps. Fear not wrinkle warriors, we’ve compiled five easy youth-enhancing tips from renowned dermatologist and founder of Murad skincare Dr Howard Murad which will help you reel back the years in a jiffy.
1. Eat raw goodness
We should be drinking around eight glasses of water a day, but Dr Murad recommends we only have seven. “Replace one glass of water with eating a bowl of raw fruit or vegetables to aid younger looking skin,” he advises. “The structured water from raw fruits and vegetables is more efficient and has the ability to better penetrate water into our living cells to create healthier, more hydrated and plumper skin.” This simple trick will leave your skin looking bright and fruit iful in no time.
2. Catch some Zs
If you don’t get the right amount of sleep every night, the tell-tale signs of tiredness show on your face, instantly adding on a year or two. “Enjoying a deep sleep every night is one of the best things you can do for your skin and your health,” explains Dr Murad. “Sleep isn’t just about waking well rested, it has important therapeutic benefits too. It may be one of your body’s most productive times for repairing every system in your body, including your largest system – your skin.”
3. Prepare and protect
Wearing an spf everyday is so simple, but how many of us actively check that our moisturiser or foundation contains protection? If in doubt, apply a layer of sunscreen before makeup to ensure your skin is always shielded from the sun. “Don’t ruin gorgeous skin by skipping this simple step,” says Dr Murad. “Regardless of the time of year, weather conditions or your skin type, you are exposed every day to environmental aggressors and skin needs protecting.” To ward off wrinkles, never leave the house without a broad spectrum UVA protection.
4. Remember to exfoliate
Just like the rest of your body, your face needs a little helping hand once in a while with the removal of dead skin cells. “Dull, lacklustre skin can make you look older than you really are,” says Dr Murad. “Dullness is usually a result of a build up of dead skin cells on your face. Exfoliation lifts the dulling film of dead skin from your skin to give you a fresh and more youthful looking complexion, instantly.” Invest in a good exfoliating brush and gently scrub your face twice a week.
5. Celebrate your glow
A simple moisturising routine could be the key to supple, younger-looking skin. “A complexion with a dewy glow looks healthier and more youthful,” Dr Murad explains. “Regardless of your skin type, you need a moisturiser to help your skin to stay smooth, strong and resilient—all qualities we associate with young skin.” Whether you’re looking for a hydrating night cream or firming moisturiser make sure you give your skin the TLC it deserves.
