The UK’s top spiritual guru on joining forces to say a prayer for harmony and world peace
Many people I talk to these days tell me they won’t watch the news any more because it’s too depressing, especially all the killing going on. Doing what I do, as a professional observer of the human condition, I’m obliged to stay abreast of current affairs so I can offer helpful overviews, and must confess myself to wanting to avoid it too. Specifically what’s been going on in Syria. 7,000 people murdered by their own government and tens of thousands being abducted and tortured.
One harrowing account recently told of a 16-year-old boy running screaming from a torture chamber because they’d sliced half his face off. The capacity for cruelty among humans knows no bounds.
But on the other hand, the capacity for compassion and kindness among humans is also unsurpassed. And it’s on that quality I invite you to draw now.
Don’t worry, this isn’t a charity appeal. At least not in the sense of asking you to send money to any cause. But to access your compassion and dedicate a moment’s attention to contributing some visualisation and magic power to helping rebalance the collective mind.
Let me explain.
One of the most fundamental golden rules of metaphysics is that the outside reflects the inside, hence change the inner scenario and, by and by the outside tends to conform.
By extension, this implies that the killing going on outside mirrors the killing going on inside at the unconscious level – the way you kill your own passion, enthusiasm, kindness, spontaneity and so on, as well as the way you inadvertently kill the same in those around you. And it mirrors your own murderous, unacknowledged impulses (we all have them).
Hence by acknowledging, accepting and so healing those tendencies within, you contribute to those tendencies being healed in the world at large.
It may seem like a long shot but ask any ancient sage and they’ll tell you, the power of your thought when focused can change the whole world.

Here’s a simple effective three-step plan to focus on global healing
Relax and scan your upper abdominal area for stress. Stress here is indicative of self-conflict – conflict between the aspect of you that loves yourself and the aspect that doesn’t. Relax your belly, using the successive exhalations to carry the tension out of you. By relaxing, the conflict settles and the ensuing inner peace will radiate from you to the whole world in time.
Scan the deeper recesses of your mind for all the resentments and grudges you’re holding, all the ill will you’re harbouring beneath the shiny surface of your everyday mind. Don’t be embarrassed or ashamed. To the contrary, forgive yourself, and forgive those you’re angry with, meaning desist seeking revenge. Finally, let go of the anger, and you transmit peace, eventually for everyone’s benefit.
Vow to teach by example. Intend to live your life as a paragon of decency, kindness, wisdom, compassion and integrity, to inspire those around you to do likewise. Decency is highly contagious. Hold the faith.
