Jo Fairley The Beauty Bible guru reveals the best body scrubs for soft silky skin
I ’ve always believed that body scrubs, almost more than the creams we slather on our bodies, are the real secrets to glowing skin. Fact: when we buff away dead, dry and often almost dusty-looking cells, moisturising and nourishing ingredients can reach their target, rather than sitting on the surface. (Counterintuitively, a great scrub is also the best way to revive a fading tan, revealing the fresh, radiant cells beneath.)
5 skin-softening scrubs
1) Green Angel Sunrise Body Smoothers and Sunset Body Smoothers.
I love that Irish seaweed-powered skincare brand Green Angel have considered that we might need different mood-shifting blends at different moments. These salt-based scrubs feature a nurturing a blend of grapeseed and argan oils and offer sense-awakening grapefruit and lemon for sunrise scrubbing, with lavender, juniper and marjoram to unwind and relax as the sun dips.
2) Neal’s Yard Remedies Frankincense & Mandarin Body Polish.
Most scrubs come in hefty glass jars, but this comes in a lightweight tube that’s packable for holidays. There’s some sugar in the 87 percent organic polish, but rice powder and green clay actually feature higher on the ingredients list, deployed for their skin-smoothing effect and infused with zesty mandarin and bergamot, alongside grounding frankincense.
3) The Natural Spa Factory Wild Rose Body Salt Scrub.
This Bath-based brand has a huge array of scrubs to choose from, but this is notable because it specifically targets sensitive skins – and also has the most fabulous rosy scent, with real petals suspended in the peach kernel and grapeseed oil base.
4) NEOM Real Luxury Body Scrub.
The name really does say it all – ‘real luxury’. This sugar-based scrub (with 97 percent certified ingredients), wafts heavenly, spirit-lifting jasmine at you while you buff, in a blend that also delights the senses with lavender, juniper and 21 further essential oils. 5) ESPA Detoxifying Salt Scrub. A favourite of mine from the day it launched, this is a really luscious way to sweep away dead skin, uplifting the senses with its cleansing, head clearing blend of eucalyptus, cypress and lavender, leaving skin softened and hydrated by sweet almond oil.
