Do you struggle with skin irritations and reactions from using plasters?
Introducing PATCH Bamboo Bandages , the world’s first compostable wound care solution that you need on your radar. We caught up with the owner, James Dutton to find out how the brand’s journey began.
“PATCH’s journey began in late 2015 after my youngest son had an adverse reaction to a common wound care product. After doing my research, I quickly discovered that over 20 percent of the global market had irritations or reactions towards the components used in plasters.” Once James realised the magnitude of the issue, he went to the drawing board to create PATCH, a healthier and safer alternative to commercial wound care.
“PATCH provides users with a new, hypoallergenic solution that is ideal for all skin types with environmental benefits,” says James. “The process was inspired by my wife who was already using bamboo fibre for her commercial skin products and encouraged me to do the same. After researching the medicinal benefits and qualities, I began trialling organic bamboo fibre and mixing natural componentry for the gauze and adhesion. My eldest son Xavier would always shy away from ointments and creams when applied to his wounds. For this reason, I looked into naturally-famed ingredients such as activated charcoal, aloe vera extract and coconut oil and created a commercially-ready prototype.”
PATCH is the world’s first natural bamboo wound care solution and is made from 100 percent bamboo fibre and mineral-based pressure sensitive adhesive (PSA) that is suitable for all skin types. “Our breathable bamboo strip bandages are enriched with added natural goodness. And we’re also latex, paraben, thimerosal and cruelty-free! One of the most unique features is that our products are compostable and biodegradable – our strip bandages have been documented to break down in the soil in a matter of weeks!”
The ingredients are all natural with well-known benefits that can soothe symptoms and assist with wound recovery. “The range features four products, PATCH NATURAL , PATCH COCONUT OIL KIDS , PATCH ALOE VERA and PATCH ACTIVATED CHARCOAL .” PATCH ACTIVATED COCONUT OIL is enriched with coconut oil gauze that can act as a natural antibacterial agent for soothing cuts and minor abrasions. PATCH ALOE VERA is enriched with aloe vera gauze that can help to soothe skin irritations and promote healing of minor wounds, blisters, burns, irritations and grazes. PATCH ACTIVATED CHARCOAL is enriched with activated charcoal gauze that can assist with drawing out impurities and infections from minor wounds, cuts and bites.
“Our most recent survey reveals that 85.2% of people would choose a natural alternative to wound care and PATCH offers that; a natural, hypoallergenic and biodegradable solution to wound care that loves your skin as much as it loves the environment!”
What began as a need for his young son, has now expanded to a worldwide venture. PATCH has gone global across 25 countries and James is planning to expand the range further over the next five years. “I see PATCH available for purchase in every continent across the world and even in some of the ‘hardest to reach’ locations. Ultimately, the plan is to not only help those who cannot wear normal wound care but provide the masses with the ultimate wound care option. For the sensitive, the eco-warriors, the elderly, the trend-setters and the adventure-seekers alike!”
