If you’d told me when I was twenty, that suffering annihilating back pain, chronic fatigue, candida based acne and the eventual horror of an ever increasing waistline, would be my saving grace in decades to come, I probably would have nutted you.
If you’d told me when I was twenty, that suffering annihilating back pain, chronic fatigue, candida based acne and the eventual horror of an ever increasing waistline, would be my saving grace in decades to come, I probably would have nutted you.
Humiliating feedback and plummeting to an all-time low kicked me into touch and I began researching and experimenting with a cocktail of orthodox, complimentary and lifestyle and changes.
Some things worked, other recommendations were ridiculous, not helped by the fact I was deeply cynical concerning any ‘lifestyle’ suggestions. Hardly an ideal recipe for easy sailing into blissful health nirvana. In fact my attitude at least doubled the time it took me to resolve my health, but I eventually landed sans the above. It took a decade! Hence my primeval urge to synchronise individuals’ knowledge of their own behaviour, consequences and knowhow ‘lifestyle’ wise.
‘Lifestyle’ wasn’t a term that existed until my late twenties and was viewed in the media as a new agey buzzword that carried little gravitas where serious health issues were concerned. This graduated to ‘Lifestyle’ becoming a lucrative part of the furniture in all media literature throughout the last decade.
‘The notion that lifestyle is central to the very core of our most prevalent diseases seems to have finally gained acceptance. A constant stream of stories appears on the front pages of our national newspapers on a practically daily basis with every TV news programme hot on their heels’. Backed by bonefied Dr’s and scientists there is not a health led story or report that doesn’t herald specific aspects of ‘lifestyle’ having a star role in the existence, increase and resolution of diseases and conditions such as cancer, heart disease, children as well as adults with rotten teeth, low bone density, diabetes and obesity, osteoporosis, acute skin and mental health conditions, and ill health in general.
Arguments between factions are still raging, but at least there is healthy debate for example, the merits versus the abusive prescription of Statins, to the positive reporting that Schools and GP’s are finally acknowledging in their new pro nutri babble style, that fruit juices and even fizzy water and fizzy ‘Organic natural drinks’ should be off the daily menu. Some schools are even banning sandwiches.
So happy cosy vibes all round? You think! For every person that signs up to preventative and proactive all round health choices, there are numerous negative individuals who would rather argue even the most ordinary input from practitioners. Or they have gone onto google and become a GP’s nightmare of a know it all, diagnosing themselves in and out of all sorts of rubbish. They won’t eat gluten but OD on sugar and massive portions of whatever they allow themselves to eat wondering why they feel like dung and can’t lose weight.
Take the man who argued the merits of his mother dowsing the origins of his ails over a doctor running tests, refusing point blank to give feedback about how he was reacting to changes in his lifestyle, whilst simultaneously talking and texting on two phones. Not a healthy anything friendly puppy he is covered from head to toe in angry, red scaly skin and complaining of being over-weight, lethargic and unfit, he threatened to go nuclear when suggested that he turn of his phone during his exercise class. Now I have nothing against dowsing, in fact testing and dowsing can exist happily side by side. And yes I’m pretty attached to my mobile. And as I am writing this I have a strong urge to rescue my Booja booja dairy free chocy ice cream (which more than makes up for the dairy with its sugar content) and polish the lot of to wipe out the memory of being on the end of this numpty. But really?
Perhaps the powers that be could consider the idea that throughout the early decades of our lives we are taught how to manage and strategize what and how we do our bit to stay relatively pain, ailment and disease free without being obsessive die hard goody goodies. Building up an inside out healthy bank account that will see us through the decades of our life without becoming part of the chemical coshing statistic. That would take away the considerable burden financially and time wise off of a domino of people, resources and money. And hopefully delete the escalating numbers of pain in the butts’ who refuse to get a pair when it comes to getting into shape .
