Our fitness blogger Anthony Mayatt shares three easy ways to keep on track
So January is half way through already and millions of people around the world have made New Year’s resolutions that most do not stick to by the end of the first month of the year! Sound familiar? This month I’m sharing with you a few pointers on how to make healthy resolutions and how to stick to them… and not think of them as a chore that you will eventually give up on.
1. You must really, really want it
People say ‘yes, this year I will do this or that’ but do they really mean it? To achieve any health resolution, you have to want it. You cannot succeed at your goal without your mind being in the right place for the resolutions to be made.
2. Create short and long term goals
The most common resolutions are ‘going to lose weight’ or ‘going to give up smoking’… generally something along those lines. Instead of being generic, create shorter and longer goals. So, let’s say for example you’ve decided you want to lose a stone by your holiday in August. That’s 14 pounds in seven months, which equals two pounds a month or only one pound every two weeks. You see how, by cutting it into smaller goals, it seems to much more achievable to reach. So now all you need to focus on is losing half a pound a week to reach that stone loss by the holiday.
3. Track your progress
I would hope that when you’ve decided what the resolutions would be, and set short and long term goals, you will have written them down. By doing this and tracking progress, I promise, you’ll find it much easier to stick to your guns. If your resolutions are only in your head you can easily make excuses and lose track. Writing down your weight loss week by week can keep the motivation going!
These three steps are simple but can really help, so give them a try and tell me in the comments box below how you’re getting on!
