All I want For Christmas… Is Perfect Skin!
Our biggest challenge this Christmas, is not gift shopping for Dad, it’s keeping your lips and cheeks resistant to the drying winter climes!
Your skin can take a bashing at Christmas time; snowballs in the face, biting winds and liquid lunches – and we don’t mean soup! Your most important plan of action is to cleanse and moisturise… From the inside of course!
Let’s start with one glass of water for every pint (or flute) of pub-served poison. The second and most important point is to factor essential fats into your beauty regime. Oily fish should make a regular guest appearance on your plate, at least three times a week. Salmon, mackerel and sardines provide a splash of omega 3 which makes waves up to your skin!
Omega 6 is equally important, so invest in some flax or hemp oil to pour over your breakfast eggs and vegetables. Avocado is a creamy pod of skin loving festivity, so pair it with your prawn starter on the big C-day!
Alcohol and festive foods are very acidic, and your skin likes nothing less. In fact it may throw a hissy fit, and punish you with zits and dry red patches. So what do we do? We alkalinise! And we may have mentioned them before (ahem…) but leafy green vegetables like spinach and watercress are your answers here. A spirulina or chlorella supplement would pelt some nourishment to your pores, and keep your liver in shape too – because when your organs are overstretched your body sends an SOS via your face.
Protecting from the outside is important too, so make up a face mask of mashed avocado, olive oil and Manuka honey. The vitamin E in these oils fights any skin damage, and the Manuka honey offers a healing touch of anti-bacterial action to wave goodbye to the over-partied skin look.
