Life not going quite how you planned? Tap into the bounty of the universe to manifest more abundance in your life says psychotherapist Deborah Sless
How many times have you wondered why your life is as it is– or felt stuck and wanted to change certain aspects of your life? The key to making these changes can be found in the universal laws, in particular the laws of manifestation. These are far more complex and interesting than we might previously have been led to believe, thanks to the plethora of self-help books that followed the success of The Secret and focused solely on the Law of Attraction.
The universal laws, or spiritual laws, as they are sometimes called, have actually been around for thousands of years and can be found throughout different spiritual traditions and philosophies.
These laws explain the workings of the universe on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual level. They are continually working behind the scenes of our life and cannot be switched off. What we can do is become more conscious of their presence and actively work with them to create the life we would like to experience. So how do we do this?
The 8 laws of manifestation
These laws are based on the master law of cause and effect, which basically means that for anything that happens (effect) there has to be a reason (cause). Therefore nothing happens in isolation. Any cause and the related effect will then result in another effect with the previous effect becoming the next cause – like a line of dominos falling. There are eight laws of manifestation – many are inter-related and can be in operation at the same time – and once you understand them, you’ll be able to use them to positively influence your life! They are:
The law of intention
The law of creation
The law of belief
The law of choice
The law of increase
The law of attraction
The law of opposites
The law of chance
Many years ago I really wanted a grey cat with loads of character. I had had a grey cat previously, a stray that decided to move in with me. He had an extraordinary personality.
“I find I am most successful when I’m not too emotionally attached to the outcome. If it happens, great, if not, that’s okay also”
This intention had been prominent in my mind for a few weeks, but there were no adverts in the local paper or in shop windows for a grey kitten. Unexpectedly, I had a sudden and strong urge to go to my local pet shop to buy some treats for my dog. While I was paying for them, out of the corner of my eye, I saw at the far end of the shop a cage with one grey kitten. After taking the kitten home, I very quickly discovered I did indeed have a cat with the most amazing personality! He became well-known where I lived and gave my family and neighbours very many pleasurable moments.
Remember, it is a thought that holds the intent, and as you see from this example I did nothing else than to have a strong desire for a grey cat. I wasn’t attached to the outcome. If it happened, great. If not, that was okay also.I find I am most successful when I’m not too emotionally attached to the outcome.
The following techniques and exercises help to focus the mind in clarifying what we wish to manifest and give us a reference point to concentrate on our goals. Let your imagination run free and have fun as you create your dreams!
Top tips for manifesting
Be in a positive frame of mind – have faith.
Be clear what the aim of your intentionis to achieve.
Check that the intention is really what you want deep within you.
Take a moment to assess whether there is a belief which counters the intent. Doubt or negativity is the enemy in working with manifesting.
Phrase your intention positively and simply and avoid ambiguous language.
Make the intention short. Long sentences have a tendency to become confusing.
Working with the five senses
You may enjoy working with your intention through one or more of the five senses – visual, auditory, kinesthetic, gustatory (taste), and olfactory (smell).Taste and smell are not considered primary senses and are often included in the kinesthetic sense. We use all three of the primary senses all the time but we have a tendency to favour one in how we perceive the world externally and inwardly tore-present the experience to ourselves. For example, you might have been told in school that you are an auditory learner,or a visual learner. In neuro-linguistic programming (NLP), this is called our preferred representational system. It can be very helpful to tap into our favoured sense when we are working to manifest a specific desire, such as finding the perfect home which has many elements to it – the type of house, modern or old,its location, what it looks like inside and the type of garden, etc.
Which sense is your primary one?
Visual– these are people who think in pictures and remember situations as images or snapshots. Typical words we might use if we are visual would be: see, view, perspective, visualise, looks, imagine, dull, colourful, glimpse, fuzzy.
Auditory– auditory people talk to themselves in their head and think in words rather thanpictures. Typical words used would be: hear, tone, loud, sounds, harmony, listen, tune, quiet, noisy, shout.
Kinesthetic– people who experience physical sensations and tactile sensations like touch, temperature, and moisture as well-remembered sensations and emotions. Typical wordswould be: soft, hard, touch, rough, tense, smooth, clammy, awkward, pressure, euphoric.
Olfactory– an individual will tend to use words like sour, stink, aroma, pungent, fragrant, smell, and reek.
Manifesting with the 5 senses
Think about what you want to manifest into your life. Is it an image? Is it a statement? Or is it a feeling? Now use the techniques below that fit with how you sensed your desire. If you are unsure of your preferred sense read through the following techniques and use the one to which you feel most drawn.
“Choose your words carefully as mantras create thought-energy waves”
Vision Board
Find a large sheet of paper, and a collection of magazines. Begin by visualising the result of your intention in as much detail as you can. Then look for pictures that show different aspects of your image and attach them to the sheet of paper. Over the coming days, add any further pictures you find so that the paper is slowly filled with images that between them visually create ac omplete picture of the fulfillment of your intention. Hang your collage where you can look at it frequently to reinforce your intention.
Manifesting Corner
If you wish to work with several or all of the five senses, create a manifestation corner. Find a shelf or small table where you can place pictures, objects, words that inspire you, aromatherapy or flowers – anything that expresses and depicts what you wish to manifest. Spend time in your manifesting corner regularly, using my tips for manifesting.
Mantras and Affirmations
A mantra or affirmation is a statement, written in the present tense, which is a positive, specific, and personal expression of what it is you wish to create. This can take many forms depending on the method used. Choose your words carefully as mantras create thought-energy waves. The difference between random thought and a specific idea is like the difference between a light bulb and a search light – the power is the same but the effect is quite different. If you are a person whose preferred sense is auditory, you will respond to sounds and words. Speaking a word produces a physical vibration. If the word is coupled with a mental intent, then this influences the result of saying it.Mantras need to be spoken on a frequent basis.
Think carefully about what are you are saying in your mind in terms of what you wish to manifest. Give yourself time to write your affirmations as a concise statement with words that resonate with you and describe your goal. These can then be put on a sheet of paper and hung on a wall which you pass frequently;or use sticky notes round a mirror in the bathroom. Each time you are in front of your affirmations, slowly read them out loud concentrating on the sound and meaning of each word. Give yourself time to really hear the phrase.
Mood Board
This method of setting our intention works with the kinesthetic sense. It is a similar process to the vision board;however, this time you are choosing pictures and objects to create the feelings and atmosphere that are associated with your goal. You can attach anything to the paper –images, different textures of materials, colour, objects, aromatic herbs or spices – that evokes the physical or emotional sensation associated with the fulfillment of your intention. Have fun being creative and thinking out of the box. Place your board somewhere visible and accessible so you can enjoy what you have created.
