Helena Grzesk, spa director of The Spa at The Midland, shares her top tips for achieving flawless skin.
Clean your tools
An important and often disregarded tip in skin preparation is ensuring your hands and tools are clean. On average, people touch their faces about 16 times an hour without realising. This transfers nasty bacteria from our hands onto our face which provides the perfect environment for spots and breakouts. You should also wash your make-up brushes after every use, as these can hold a great deal of bacteria, too!
Dare to bare
Taking a 5:2 approach with make-up is a great way to give your skin a break. By dedicating two days a week to going make-up free, you’re allowing your skin to detox. It also encourages cell regeneration which ultimately results in a brighter and more youthful complexion.
Facial massage
Not just once in a while, but everyday! Giving your face a daily kneading increases blood flow to the skin while giving it a more lifted and brightened appearance. Always use circular motions on the cheeks while changing to an up and down motion around the lips and eyes. Always make sure you pay particular attention to your pressure points around the eyes, temples and under the cheek bones. Specific focus on these areas releases built up tension which will lift and firm. Try giving it a go when you apply your moisturiser.
Change your diet
Without a doubt the hardest tip to follow, but if you want results, no pain, no gain! Adopting a healthy diet is one of the most important skin preparation steps. It is especially important to avoid salty foods as this will prevent puffy skin and eyes.
