…we’ve been doing it wrong for all these years
Washing you hair is just like buttering toast… something you just don’t need to think about. You lather with a natural shampoo , rinse and repeat, then slap on some natural conditioner to the mid lengths and ends. Rinse again and voila! Simple, right? Well, actually, haircare professionals have recently explained that this is wrong…
Now that you’ve picked your jaw up from the ground, we’ll explain a little more. Reverse hair washing, where you use conditioner first and follow with a shampoo, has recently been dubbed by experts as the secret to perfect hair , and after trying it for a week we have to agree. Promising to give hair more volume and boost its health, our experience ticked both the boxes.
The science
According to the experts, regardless of how much you try to wash out conditioner, the residue stays in the hair weighing it down. In turn, this can result in flat, limp and lacklustre locks , especially for those with fine hair. By conditioning first, you still reap the de-tangling and glossy benefits of a good natural conditioner but without the residue side-effects – result! Plus, hair is more likely to keep that just-washed bouncy blow dry feeling you get from a salon until the next wash. Sounds too good to be true, right?
Our verdict
It’s all well and good us advising you to reverse your hair routine, but where’s the proof that it actually works? Here at NH HQ we’re dedicated to bringing you the very best so we set ourselves a challenge to try reverse hair washing for one week and the results, we have to admit, were astounding. Without changing our products or doing anything different other than the order in which we lathered up our locks, our hair was left with noticeably more bounce, shine and definitely more volume. This news has changed our hair washing routine for good. Do you dare to give it a go?
