Soul Diva Alice Grist shows us how looking back can be the key to moving forward in our spiritual practice
On any spiritual path a very important question is: what brought you here? It is all too easy for me to tip, tap, type away about my spiritual learnings, indeed I have done so now in three books. But the really important, vital question is what brought you to this moment. What made you launch forward and click on an article by the Soul Diva? What in your heart and soul is calling out to you to find some deeper meaning?
This is the crux of a spiritual path. No matter how hard you research your gurus, saints and sages, not one of them will have your experiences, your life, your feelings. This, you think, makes you less spiritual than them. But you are wrong about that. We are all embodiments of spiritual, universal magical energy. In the eyes of spirit we are all entirely, always and forever, equal. So yes, you are as spiritual as Ghandi, as Buddha, as The Archbishop of Canterbury. You are spirit. You are divine.
What happens in your life, be it mundane, chaotic, exciting, ordinary, happy or sad, is all gifted to you for a reason. So that your soul might grow, and that with that growth, your growth as an individual will ripple out to the rest of the planet. Every thought you think, every deed you do, can all have massive spiritual effects on others. And so that is why us spiritual types preach love, kindness and non-judgment.
You and I we are the same. I may be writing under the fancy guise of ‘Soul Diva’, I may have published books that guide you towards a spiritual path. Yet in essence, we are very much alike. We are learning, discovering and taking the ups and downs of life, day by day, moment by moment. So, your homework this week, something for you to chew over in your mind is… What brought you here? What magical non-coincidences, signs, feelings, thoughts, events made you open your heart and mind to a little spirit? This is the key to your journey. Figure out your starting point and then let’s all move forward.
“We are all embodiments of spiritual, universal magical energy. In the eyes of spirit we are all entirely, always and forever, equal. So yes, you are as spiritual as Ghandi, as Buddha, as the Archbishop of Canterbury”
To help guide you, here is what brought me to a spiritual frame of mind. I was lucky enough to be brought up with all kinds of spiritual influences. I learned tarot, meditations and energy healing as a child. I forgot all this as a teen and got on with my life. When I was in my late twenties, I had a bit of a mid-life crisis, and it was in the very human moments of this (drinking too much, partying, unhealthy lifestyle) that I felt I needed to revisit my spiritual inclinations. I was unhappy in my life, confused and scared, spirituality brought me back to my true self.
So what brought me here, to this spiritual place, was a desire for happiness , wholeness and a need to connect to ‘something more’. I read books that blew my mind, I picked up my tarot cards again. I opened my heart to something more, and something more rushed in. So, that’s my tale in a nutshell… Your turn!
