Thanks to our mothers and grandmothers and everyone that helped them, today we women have both the legal protection and social acceptance to be equal to men in all ways. We are free to pursue our dreams, the same jobs at the highest levels, and make decisions about our bodies. We are free to tap in to our innate Aphrodite powers.
Yet many women still struggle with money, with career, with friendships, with balancing it all. And the struggle I hear most about is romantic love. Why is this happening at a time when women should be thriving? We’ve gone through the era of girl power and ladettes –where girls stood up to show they could act just like men (or better!).
What are Aphrodite powers?
Now is the time to show up as a woman and really understand what that means. And as so much of our civilisation is based on ancient Greek culture, who better to teach us than the Greek goddesses? Athena the Wise, Artemis the Protector, Demeter the Mother… we all have bits and pieces of their archetypes within us. But the one that drew the crowds, the pleas, the most offerings was Aphrodite, goddess of love, beauty, sensuality, and pleasure.
Aphrodite effortlessly attracts men and gods alike and loves her fellow women. She is powerful, sexual and creative and embraces her feminine qualities without any doubts. She lives and breathes her true nature unapologetically. And she gets what she wants! It’s now time to tap into our Aphrodite power to attract love yes, but also money, magic and miracles in to our life. It’s about accessing a love goddess-like state of mind and knowing how to rock it! Here’s how…
5 ways to unleash your inner Aphrodite
1. Tap into different energy
Masculine energy is: linear, logical, structured, producing and assertive. Feminine energy is: intuitive, organic, flowing, abundant and receptive.
Now if that gets your back up a bit, let me be clear about something: there are both masculine and feminine energies in all of us.The key is understanding that it’s not either/or;it’s about the two dancing together, masculine and feminine, in the most beautiful and graceful waltz.
It’s very difficult to waltz when the two people are both trying to take the same role in the dance, whether it’s the lead or being partnered. So if you are competing with someone for a project at work, it’s time to bring out your assertive masculine energy. If you want to be wooed and pursued romantically, that same masculine energy will create a toxic competitive environment. It’s a mixed message, you see. Either you want to be wooed or you want to do the wooing. Which is your true nature?
If you want to BE wooed, then it’s time to go into your feminine nature and gracefully receive the attention your man so very much wants to give you.
“Aphrodite delighted in her curves, her magic and her ability to attract admirers and in being a goddess, instead of a god”
2. Claim your feminine power
Unabashedly ask for your deepest desires and dreams, whether it’s the great love, wealth, rude health or anything else. Trust it is on its way to you, even when it looks like it makes no sense,it feels too big, and you can’t see how it can happen. Leave that to the GMU (General Manager of the Universe.) Be open to all you desire coming your way. When you are trying to make it happen or are afraid it won’t, you aren’t receiving, you are blocking it so it can’t come to you.
3. Stop the man bashing
This is a very simple step. Men are not the enemy. There are many wonderful men in the world and they do not deserve to be lumped in with the ones that seek to harm others, any more than women do. I casually remarked to a therapist a few years back, that I really feel for men, as they are having a tough time too, trying to figure out what the right thing is to do in their lives and their relationships. Her reply was a very sarcastic, “oh the poor babies. Yes, they have it so hard, the liars.”
The truth is, men are trying to find their way just as we are, through the maze of the new paradigm of what it means to be the men and women of today, and they struggle as well. Should they be more sensitive? More assertive? Should they show gentlemanly behaviour and open the car door for a woman or will they get their head bitten off for it?
Aphrodite adored men. She saw how amazing they were, recognised their hero potential, their capability for love and loyalty and often assisted them. And of course it went both ways, as men and gods alike utterly worshipped her. It was easy for her to admire men as she never felt inferior to them, whether they were mortal or gods. If you want a great romance, it’s harder to attract the kind of man you would like if you carry any hostility towards them as a whole.Take a leaf out of Aphrodite’s book and really look for the best in men, expect the best and hold them to that standard, and respect them when they show up that way!
4. We are equal but we are not the same
Having rights like men does not mean being the same as them. How boring would that be?Aphrodite was a goddess who was clearly in her feminine energy and power. At the same time, she had a long-standing love affair with Ares, God of War. And they delighted in the differences between them! If you’ve ever tried to attract a man by either trying to be a ‘mate’ to him or by trying to prove that you can be just as productive, logical, and straight-talking as them (in other words, just like them) then you know that really doesn’t work. Men don’t want another friend. And, just as importantly,do you really want another one? For most women this is just exhausting. In short, we are all equal when it comes to the right to pursue happiness, to follow our dreams, to be as wildly successful as we can, to make choices to have the best life possible. However, it’s time to see that equal does not mean that we are all the same –or like men!
5. Be true to yourself
Aphrodite delighted in her curves, her magic, her beauty, her ability to attract admirers and in being a goddess, instead of a god.Athena loved a good war strategy session with her dad or warriors. Demeter loved spending time with her beloved daughter. True freedom for everyone means that we can be our most authentic, most juicy and unique selves in every part of our lives. Whatever your preferences, whoever you really are, the time to fit into someone else’s mould is over! Don’t you want someone to fall in love with the true you, whether you are a lover, a warrior, or a nurturer?
Our guide to the ancient goddesses and how they can help your love life
Aphrodite
HER DOMAIN:
Goddess of love, beauty, sensuality and pleasure.

She brings the potent sexy magic back into romance and makes it come alive. She is unapologetically feminine and probably the most powerful deity as everyone desires love.

Enjoy your beauty by taking care of your body and feminine spirit and by pampering yourself. Really know that your beauty comes from within.Aphrodite was adored for her radiance, rather than her physical attributes and was the fairest of them all. Let yourself be romantic. Be honest about how important love is in your life and how much you desire it. Really let yourself sink into this feeling of sensual deliciousness on an everyday basis.
Athena
HER DOMAIN:
Goddess of wisdom, strategy, law and justice.
STAR QUALITIES:
She helps you see the truth in romantic situations and make the right decisions.
TAP INTO HER POWER:
Call on Athena for your left-brain thinking and for navigating your way through a masculine environment.Sometimes you just need a plan and a strategy. Take time to sit down and really think about what you want. We often go through life reacting to situations rather than considering what our goals are instead.Whenever a situation seems fuzzy and you can’t get any clear answers, imagine being her and with your sword of truth, cut away the cobwebs of confusion.
Artemis
HER DOMAIN:
Goddess of the hunt and protector of women.
STAR QUALITIES:
She helps you protect your boundaries so that you stay safe.
TAP IN TO HER POWER:
Whenever someone tries to pressure you or even bully you into any situation, think of Artemis.People often give in rather than engage in conflict. Remember that you are the only one who gets to decide what is best for you and not a single person on this planet has aright to make you do something you don’t want to. If someone is pushing your limits, act as Artemis would and protect yourself like you would any other woman you saw in trouble – you deserve the same!
Demeter
HER DOMAIN:
Goddess of fertility, the harvest and motherhood.
STAR QUALITIES:
She helps you to nourish your desires and give birth to them at the right time.
TAP INTO HER POWER:
Whenever you have a desire that’s very precious to you and it needs time to bring it to fruition, try nurturing it, giving it attention and keeping it safe. Anything that gets our attention thriving needs nourishing energy, whether it’s an actual child, garden, business or any other dream. Demeter is the goddess of TLC so things will flourish. The quickest way to harness these vibrations is by giving yourself a little tenderness first – no surprises there!
“Enjoy your beauty by taking care of your feminine spirit”
Hera
HER DOMAIN:
Goddess of marriage and the queen of Olympus and the gods.
STAR QUALITIES:
She helps you define what you want from a relationship and have the self-worth to expect it.
TAP INTO HER POWER:
We all know that Hera was completely focused on her marriage with Zeus as her primary way of finding meaning. So when he repeatedly cheated on her, it brought out her shadow side and she became vindictive and cruel.Until one day she left Zeus and found herself-worth. Her energy isn’t about leaving a marriage or a situation. It’s about leaving sub-standard treatment behind, knowing you deserve better. It’s about choosing a man who will honour your devotion and dignity. It’s about being a queen and knowing it!
Hestia
HER DOMAIN:
Goddess of the hearth and sacred flame.
STAR QUALITIES:
She helps you to keep the fires of your soul’s truth and your belief in love alive.
TAP INTO HER POWER:
In my book, I call Hestia the ‘meditation goddess’. She is the one who is happy to spend an evening making a delicious dinner and eating at her beautifully set table – by herself and for her own pleasure. If you want to create a sacred space in your home and in yourself, start with a bit of meditation and then make every act one of love for the most important person in the world – you. Then take that flame of belief in life with you wherever you go.
